Happy Birthday Scott

Well winter finally arrived temperature wise, but not really otherwise. We've had a really mild winter thus far, hopefully it stays like this. This wind is bitter cold and we got a slight skiff of snow, but not typical to this time of year. I hate to say it out loud but we usually have that bitter below zero week right about now...and it hasn't arrived yet, thank goodness. We've started calving, those little babies are so darn cute. Laney tells me as we are driving in the car when she sees baby calves. We were driving day before yesterday and she asks me "Mama, are those our cows?" "no" I answered, "those are someone elses". "Mama, are those our cows?" she asks as we drove by another field. "No, those are someone elses too" "well there is a couple baby calves in there, maybe we should let them know." :) She's very observant and sees everything! We drove by our cows and checked on a new baby that we'd just had, she says "mama, I don't see that calf's mom, can you see if one of those cows has been sucked? That one will probably be his mommy." :) Seriously, she's 3!!! I sometimes think she says the stuff she hears us say just because, but it's ALWAYS relevant and fits, so I'm not too sure that she doesn't really have the whole thing figured out. She's been helping Scott a lot, and the other day he told her thank you for helping him, she answers "I love helping you, Daddy" and gave him a huge hug. She is also in full on pretend mode. She is constantly "cooking" in the kitchen and "feeding" Tana pretend food, and a constant stream of conversation with who knows...sometimes I can't tell if she's actually talking to me or not :) Tana said "Laney" loud and clear today, hard to believe she will be 15 months on Sunday. She is doing really well with the potty, not quite as done as I remember Laney being at this age, but I also had a lot less to do then :)

Happy Valentine's Day

Possibly my smallest post ever...well at least the fewest pics taken on record. Scott and I are fighting some nasty cold and flu, Tana has a mild case, and I just didn't feel up to taking pics...plus my small camera lens got broken on the trip to Mexico :( so I only have my giant zoom lens which is a little hard indoors sometimes. I had to get a picture of Tana riding Sadie though, poor old girl, she rides her like Laney used to. The picture of Laney in the turquoise dress was funny :) She is snapping all of these barretts into her hair and says "Do I look cute with a hundred barrets in my hair?" The other morning Sadie had gotten shut behind the baby gate on the basement stairs and Laney said in this loud whisper "Mom, Sadie is caught in the bear trap." That comes from Scott...he squeezes his legs around the girls and traps them in the bear trap. Then yesterday was Scott's birthday, and I made him dinner and a cake, which we didn't even eat because we feel so yucky. Laney comes out to the kitchen and says "whoa, Mom, that looks like a huge cake that you made for Dad's birthday!" I asked her the other day if she knew where my hair brush was and she answers "No, I do not, but I could let you use mine if you can't find your's in a little bit."

Cabo San Lucas Trip

This last week we went to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, it was really a nice break from everything. Warm, lots of sunshine, relaxing, lots of swimming, and sleep, it was nice. Laney and Tana had fun in the sand on the beach until Laney discovered the crabs. There were tiny little crabs, some as little as a nickel, that would run really fast into their holes in the sand when they would see people walking by. Laney saw one running and said "what was THAT?" I told her they were little crabs...she totally freaked out, thought they were going to bite her, and said "I'm all done at the beach, Mama." We saw a lot of whales really close to the shore too. None jumped out of the water like we'd seen in Hawaii, but they would blow and flap their tails, so cool, I just love them. When we arrived we were upgraded to the presidential suite free of charge so we had our own private hot tub which was so nice. We swam most all day everyday in this infinity pool up on the top of this hill/Mexican mountain, it was so beautiful up there. Tana mostly just floated and relaxed with Uncle Volk and Daddy, and Laney swam like the energizer bunny. On the flight home, the flight attendant said her normal spiel over the intercom...when she finished, Laney asked very loudly "what did the doctor say?" All in all, they were both very good travelers. Laney went the first 6 days with no nap...at the end of day 6 she threw up and spiked a fever...we aren't sure exactly what happened but think it may have been the milk or cream she'd had that morning on her oatmeal. Who really knows, but she slept the rest of that day and almost the entire next day. That day was overcast and kinda cold and rainy all morning anyway, so it worked out to be the best day to not feel good. I felt so bad for her :( The next day her fever was gone and she felt much better. We met some really nice people from Kentucky while we were there...hey y'all, we had a great time with you guys! It is good to be home, although coming home to this snow storm was a bit rude I thought! We've been so lucky this winter, this is really our first snow that lasted at all or amounted to anything...and we only got an inch or so. Tana cut two teeth while we were in Mexico also, so now she has 8, I think, there may be two more that have just barely broke through the gums but I can't tell yet if they are really through. Tana's hair down there was hilarious, it got so puffy and curly...curlier than normal and definitely puffier. It was so cute, and the more sunscreen that got rubbed in, the cuter and crazier it got. She kept saying "bo" and pointing to her hair...so I'd try and put a ponytail in to tame it, she'd just take it back out, but it was cute while it lasted.
