Party all the time, party all the time

Well I must have jinkst the weather into the opposite direction because it has been so beautiful this week. One kinda cold day, the rest have been in the 60's and 70's. This is the perfect calving weather. We have babies everywhere! They are so darn cute, running and playing with each other. I love it when they stick their little tails in the air and just haul the mail. The first series of pictures of Tana I took when she was chasing kitties one day this week. She would point and just run after this one, then she'd see another one and she'd point and take off towards that one...most of them kept running away, and it made her cry...I know, it's kinda mean to keep taking pictures of her crying, but I only took 3 :) then I went and hugged her. Wilbur kitty let her pet her...yes we have a girl cat named Wilbur courtesy of Laney...but of course she kept wanting the ones that kept running away. Since it was so nice this week, we rode almost everyday. Tana just giggles and giggles, and now Laney has to tell her what to do. Tana had a bit of a rough week...she began the week by falling and bumping her forehead on some rocks...ouch. Man I really feel like a bad parent when that stuff happens...but it didn't seem to phase her that much, she was happy and playing later like nothing had happened. Then on top of that she cut 4 molars...and she's cutting another one! Man the teething thing can be so rough. When she's teething and wakes up crying at night, her cry sounds like she's saying "owie", it's so sad...the only good thing is that they don't remember it. Laney has no memory of hers. I think a lot of funny things happened and were said this week but of course I can't remember any right now, except something Scott said that illustrates how the border collies think. A couple days ago I drove down to the feedlot after lunch to find some cattle out. More than just a few, a rough count looked like 20 head were out. Well as I drove around the yard I couldn't find the hole...no open gate, no fence knocked down...but then all of a sudden there were 30, then 40, then 50. I called Scott and told him I'd start gathering them horseback but that I'd left the dogs home at lunch. So he grabs them and heads down. Turns out there was a tiny bit of fence that came un-welded and they were just slipping right out. I rode all over the yard getting these calves headed in the same direction and had just about 20 head left in the back of this one alley around our pond. But there are 2 holes that need blocked in order for them to head back where they needed to go so I waited until Scott could send the dogs to help. He drives up like 2 minutes later and lets them out. Well he grabbed all five, Jo, Newt and Nann head off doing the right thing, Jack sorta does the right thing, Nap just heads off and jumps in the pond...more on him another time. So here come the calves headed in the right direction, I block one hole, Scott blocks the other, here the calves come by me. Scott tells me that he left a few up another alley on the way in so he was headed to get those. Well getting five border collies to all down and chill then listen to the next command all at the same time after they've just been chasing something at a high rate of speed is a little difficult. So Scott describes it as, when the stuff in the squirrel cage gets going too fast, they start to sing 'Party all the time, party all the time" and it's all bad. That's what I love about them, they all have giant smiles from ear to ear, even if their doin' the wrong thing.
