Making a new gate

This week we all have been trying to get over a cold...some people brought a sick kid to a birthday party we all went to the Sunday before Easter, and we've all been really sick. Laney is finally feeling better, although her voice is still horse. Tana, Scott, and me are still fighting it, the congestion and cough, yuck. We of course haven't let that slow us down very much though. We had a crazy couple of rain storms over Easter weekend that kind of screwed up some cows and calves for a few days, so we had a bum that couldn't find his mommy. We drove down on the buggy to get him. Scott held him on his lap on the drive back to the house and the calf was trying to suck on his ear the whole way, it was so cute. Laney got to feed him a bottle and pet him. She kept telling us "dis baby's mommy doesn't feel good." He was our new little friend, laying in the grass, just hanging around until the next bottle...then 2 days later his mom showed back up and they got reunited :) The dogs aren't sure what to think of the baby calves when they invade their space. They wont look them in the eye...and they get all clingy on us like they are trying to tell us he doesn't belong by the house. Molly wasn't liking him being there, she would bark at him, then lay down and sigh all frustrated. She is such a cute little puppy, really feisty and sweet. Laney is obsessed with her pink "princess dress" and wears it all the time. In fact she wanted to sleep in it the other night. The other morning she puts it on and says as she's admiring herself in the mirror "I'm beautiful in my princess, I wuv my princess". Then she goes out to the living room and says "want to play football mommy?" She is seriously smart...Scott was sorting pairs through a gate that they were not wanting to go through, so we drove over to another corner of the pasture where they were wanting to go to and had to cut the fence. I didn't explain any of it to Laney, in fact I don't think I had said anything, she just was watching, then says "Daddy had to make a new gate." Then the other morning we had moved some of the horses to the front pasture, Laney woke up and looked out the window and says "mommy, I see yellow dandelions. Oh mommy I see my horses. Oh look I see Blue Duck, and Crash, and Squirty, and Sis." It's crazy to see Tana at her stage of learning depth perception, learning how to roll over, how to grab things, learning to make different noises and faces, and then look at Laney and think it wasn't that long ago Laney was learning those things...they change so fast, it's crazy! I get farm fresh eggs from our friend Pat, I've nicknamed her the Egg Fairy, and today we were taking pairs up to their ranch to turn out. When I told Laney where we were going she went and grabbed her Easter basket and her phone. Scott suggested that she leave her basket at home and she says "I'm getting some eggs from Pat." :)
